Mapúa University welcomed the delegates from Taiwan’s Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST), National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), and other professors from various higher educational institutions of Taiwan in the forum on Water Quality Assessment and Monitoring: Detection of Cyanobacteria and Odor Compounds in Water Sources for Domestic Use at the Yuchengco Innovation Center (YIC) last September 25, 2018.
The forum was co-organized by Mapúa and NCKU to discuss the progress in the water quality monitoring and cyanobacteria detection project in Laguna Lake of the Taiwan-Philippines Joint Water Quality Research and Innovation Center (TP-WQRIC).
Prof. Tsair-Fuh Lin of NCKU, director of TP-WQRIC, and Prof. Delia B. Senoro, director of Mapúa’s Office of International Linkages for Research and Development (ILRAD) and co-director of the TP-WQRIC, spearheaded the forum and discussion.
The highlight of the event was the turnover of the mobile trailer laboratory provided by T-MOST to TP-WQRIC of Mapúa. The trailer laboratory will be used for the ongoing project in Laguna Lake and other future research projects of the joint research center. It is customized with the capability to support the conduct of onsite water quality monitoring. It contains two generators to support the power requirement during field work, refrigerator to store and preserve samples, and countertops that can carry instruments for on-site water quality analysis.
